Jean-François Cooke, born in Chicoutimi in 1974, and Pierre Sasseville, born in Québec City in 1978, have been creating art together under the name Cooke-Sasseville since 2000. Based in Quebec City, they have made their mark on the art scene with playful and critical works. They have exhibited in over twenty solo exhibitions and participated in numerous collective events both in Canada and internationally. Their deliberately paradoxical art confronts viewers with ambivalent situations where comfort intertwines with unease, criticism is delivered through entertainment, and playful attitudes paired with apparent nonchalance uncover deeply unsettling questions.
The duo is also known for their monumental public artworks, having completed nearly forty projects as part of Quebec's policy of integrating art into architecture. These projects span various municipalities, organizations, and private companies nationwide. Throughout their careers, Cooke and Sasseville have received numerous awards and distinctions, and their works are included in many public and private collections.
